GROW IT - SHOW IT

2015 will be the society's centenary year - we aim to be still growing strong. In order to work towards our centenary we are setting ourselves a target to get Tettenhall and District growing. To do this we have been running  our 'Grow it - Show it' project since April this year. The project was completed at the Tetenhall Fete on 3rd July when we gave away the final 40 kits.

The aim of the project was to encourage local people to grow at least one pot of salad or vegetable plants. Not only were we aiming to encourage people to get growing, but we were also aiming to boost entries to our local show which has been held in Tettenhall every year since 1915.

Earlier this year Waitrose designated us as one of their 'Community Matters' choices and were able to provide us with a cheque for £250 to cover the costs of this project.
The West Midlands Safari Park and the Severn Valley Railway have each donated two tickets to be awarded as prizes to the two winners of the children's 'Cress Head' competition which is part of the project. Thanks also to our members who help us to 'reduce, re-use and recycle' by donating plastic pots.

To date we have distributed over 330 growing kits to our local community. Two of our local schools are entering into the spirit of things by growing decorated cress heads which were then  judged as part of our annual show programme.
